Practical Information

Everything you need to know to make your trip easy.

Cost: At present the Priory school visits remain free of charge, but as it is one of three sites this is subject to change. Please note any booked visits would be honoured. There may be a nominal charge for materials, please refer to the relevant web page for details.

Toilets: There are toilets, which in general are not for public use, but accessible for schools.  This includes a disabled toilet.  All are on the ground floor.

Lunch facilities: It is usually possible to provide a space where children can eat lunch if you specify when booking your visit. On most occasions this will be in the Visitor Centre or outside in the Priory Gardens (weather permitting).  This is only advisable for a class of no more than 30 children.  Where a linked visit is booked with the Herbert, there are rooms which can be booked with prior arrangement for lunch.

Coats and bags: There are allocated bag and coat racks but it is suggested that these are for the use of children only due to limited security.

First aid: We suggest that schools bring their own first aid equipment and children's medication.

Fire alarm: In the event of a fire, an alarm will sound and the museum will be evacuated. Please follow the guidance of museum staff towards emergency exits.  Please see the risk assessment for the undercroft with regard to fire exit.

Coach/mini bus/ car parking: Please be aware there is no parking for cars, mini-buses or coaches at the Priory Visitor Centre. If you require specific disabled drop off you may contact The Priory directly for advice.

Disabled access: There are disabled ramps for access and the exhibition is on ground floor level.  Access to the undercroft is through a lift, which will be used by Priory staff where required.  It is advisable to notify the Priory staff with any special requirements such as this beforehand.

Shop: Schools are more than welcome to use our gift shop. Please note this should be allocated as extra time to your planned/booked visit.
